At Protocab we like things to be prototypical. And so if you are running a steam locomotive, why not add a power source on-board, like the full-sized locomotive does? Battery technology has progressed in leaps and bounds in recent years, driven by the research and development efforts of the mobile device industries, and so it is completely feasible now to use rechargeable batteries on board model railway locomotives and get great running times.

All Protocab batteries are single cell, nominal 3.7V. The voltage to the motor is sorted out by the locomotive control unit The 1901 series (to be introduced) are cylindrical form and the 1902 series are flat form (prismatic).

Protocab batteries are manufactured with sub-miniature connectors which plug directly to the Locomotive Control Unit, and are fitted with a 75mm lead.

We have selected a range of batteries which gives an excellent power to weight ratio, and will fit in a wide range of locomotives.

The Protocab battery is the power source for the locomotive motor and Acc+Ess Protocab Locomotive Control Unit (LCU). The battery is fitted to the LCU using the micro connector supplied ready attached to the battery. Using the 960x series of charging units attached to the LCU, there is no need to remove the battery from the locomotive to recharge it.

This battery uses lithium-ion chemistry and is rated for a lifespan of 300-400 full recharging cycles. NOTE: Special handling and operating considerations apply to this battery.

Protocab locomotives contain a Battery, a Locomotive Control Unit connected to your motor, and a Charging Socket.

In the Protocab Pilot Series they are controlled wirelessly using a handheld control
